Thrive Assembly and Brunch

Every Friday we hold a whole school assembly in the dining hall. During this assembly, we launch our 'Ways of Being' Focus for the term as well as our target for the week. This half-term we are focusing on 'Show You Care', with our focus this week being: Good Listening. Pupils will receive extra dojos if they are caught by staff showing 'good listening''. During assembly, we also discuss what being safe looks like at Rathbone, awarding pupils with the 'Safe' certificate if they have been safe all week. Next, we discuss what being helpful looks like in our classrooms and award the 'Helpful' certificate to a boy from each class. It's then time for our attendance awards: Five Day Freddo and Most Improved. At the end of the assembly Mr Jones will share some amazing work that the boys completed throughout the week, before the big award! THRIVING. One boy from each class who has been thriving every single day that week will be invited into Mr Jones' office for sausage sandwiches, pancakes, fruit and a dip into the prize box. Thrive Brunch is the highlight of the week at Rathbone.

Christmas Grotto and Jumper Day

Next Friday 12th December we will celebrate Christmas Jumper Day in our own Rathbone way. We will provide Christmas Jumpers in school, or pupils can wear their own if they already have one. We don't expect parents to spend money on a new one. We have plenty of donations of jumpers in school for children to use. There will be a Christmas Grotto where every child will receive a gift from Santa, as part of the Cash for Kids appeal. We will also give children the opportunity to go into our Co-op Shop and collect items for their family homes, free of charge.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

At Rathbone school we are always looking at ways we can support our pupils and ensure all their needs are being met. We have recently brought in a therapy called Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This therapy runs in sessions which last between 6-8 weeks and supports pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, building confidence and self awareness. Some families will be aware of this as their children are accessing the therapy, each half-term ,new pupils will be able to take part in the sessions. The sessions are run by a therapist called Laura Wells who has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with pupils who have SEN.

We will be holding a CBT coffee morning with Laura Wells on Friday 19th December 11:30-1pm at school for any parents who would like any more information on what CBT is, would like strategies to support your child at home and any other questions you may have.

This will take place before the Christmas assembly that is taking place from 1pm. If you would like to attend, please contact Mrs Gorman, Deputy Headteacher.

Please be aware your child could already be receiving other therapies such as Sandplay Therapy, Lego Therapy, Bucket Therapy or Seedlings.

Toy Policy

We know that our pupils use a wide range of objects to help them regulate. Some of these may include toys. Please can you speak with your class teacher about addign a specific toy or item to your child's Pupil Passport of Personal Behaviour Support Plan. This allows us to distinguish between toys that are brought in for regulation and toys that are brought in that can cause distraction, conflict or even distress.

Any toys that are not included in a child's individual plan are not allowed to be brought into school. We have a wide range of materials in school that pupils play with that support them to regulate, build communication strategies and meet their EHCP outcomes.

Christmas Pantomine- Monday 15th December

Another fun filled fantasy from 'Chaplins Mini Pantos' to entertain and delight your children this coming Christmas.

This year we have chosen the ever popular pantomime tale of

Red Riding Hood.

For 75 minutes the children will be transported to the Magic Wood where they will meet Little Red Riding Hood and all her friends.

Packed solid with comedy, songs, adventure and audience participation, they will roar with laughter at the comedy antics of their hero, Posh Bert, and the comic dame, Mrs Hood, and they will shout as they have never shouted before when they warn Red Riding Hood not to enter the woods alone.
